Mommy Makeover in Turkey

Patient Interview

Please give us an overview of how and when you made the decision to utilize medical tourism for your procedure? And what made you choose Turkey as your destination?

Mrs. Thomas: I decided to have my surgery in Turkey again. I wanted to have my stomach and back fixed and have liposuction basically a mommy makeover and seems that I have done my other surgeries in Turkey just figured that this would be the best place to have my surgery In Turkey seemed that Izmir was a better choice.

Did you use a medical tourism facilitator to help you coordinate your trip? If so, please explain the service they provided. (Shawn Maurer what was the experience like)

Mrs. Thomas: I got a recommendation from a former Patient (Abi) and contacted Shawn (medical tourism facilitator). Basically, he was my link to the Drs and was so helpful with sending pictures and explaining the procedures and allowing me to choose my Dr and the hospital.

Was this your first medical tourism trip? How did you pre-pare for your journey?

Mrs. Thomas: No, it wasn’t my first trip I think I came least prepared for this one I only brought a change of clothes and pain killers

Did your doctor pre-screen you before you flew to the destination? If so, what medical tests and documents did you have to submit to this office?

Mrs. Thomas: No medical tests required before my trip though as soon as I landed I was picked up by Shawn and taken to the Dr who examined me and had medical tests and blood work and X-rays done the day before my surgery.

How did you choose what doctor to use? (how did Shawn Help You out in the process)

Mrs. Thomas: I had previous surgeries in 2017 in Istanbul and this time I had a trustable recommendation from a friend. I had 2 options and I didn’t like the approach of the Hospital and went along with the Dr and the hospital Shawn (medical tourism facilitator) recommended so far the best experience I ever had from a medical team

Did you travel with a companion? If so, what were the benefits? if any.

Mrs. Thomas: I came by my self although I don’t feel like I’m by my self cause Shawn has been with me the whole time and through him, I get to communicate with the staff and the times when I don’t want to eat or walk he forces me to eat and encourages me to stay physically active.

How did the medical care compare to your home country?

Quiet different cause I never had surgery in the UK but from my reasearch, it’s more like a money scam they are more interested in making money then to help out with the needs of patients. I was told to have 1 surgery wait a year and then have another surgery wait a year to have my final surgery. I came To Turkey all my surgery including plane tickets was almost the same price but I got it all done in one shot.

Did the language barrier impact your medical trip in any way? If so, how?

Mrs. Thomas: My first time in Istanbul I had some translator but they were never really there… this time in Izmir I have Shawn who is with me the whole time plus he is in contact with family and friends back home as well to keep not only me but also my family and friends in the loop of what’s going on.

Did you have any fears or concerns about receiving medical care in another country? If so, what were they?

Mrs. Thomas: The only fear I had was that the thought of I would die. I think I was just nervous that knowing the fact that I’m alone and if something came up what would happen to me and the fear of unknown how will I look like after the process..

Was there any difference between your home country and your medical tourism destination, regarding their hospitality?

Mrs. Thomas: Yes, I feel like I’m much better looked out after here. They have more time for you like in London no nurse will cut up your food and make sure you eat up.

Did you feel safe at your hotel and other places you visited in the country?

Mrs. Thomas: Hospital and the hotel staff was friendly and helpful Shawn was with me the whole time, we even had the tour of the city seems safer than back home, the only thing I can say that it bothered me was that the certain people stare perhaps never seen a colored girl before

did you enjoy any of the country’s entertainment?

Mrs. Thomas: Somewhat I’m looking forward to coming back out here for a vacation with my kids

How long did it take youto recover before you could travel home, and what did you do during the recovery phase?

Mrs. Thomas: I was told that I needed to be in the country for 6 7 days to recover after such a big surgery tough I was feeling great after the 4th day so we went out with Shawn window shopping and Ferryboot ride in the coast

What are the advantages of getting a medical procedure in your destination of choice?

Mrs. Thomas: Much Better care and cheaper prices. Also, an advantage is that you can get exactly what you want and doctors listen to you and work with you rather than wait and come back for further surgeries. back home you can’t do all these surgeries at once

What stood out to you the most about the staff and the doctors?

Mrs. Thomas: My family knew before I even got to talk to them about whats going on, this morning I called my sister to let her know about my morning and she told me she has already spoken to Shawn and knew everything already..

Was there anything’s that you didn’t like about the medical care in your medical tourism destination? Were there area’s that they could improve in?

Mrs. Thomas: No, but the only thing I can think of they should have mirrors in the room so that I can see my self the anticipation of what I look like. I think it could also help if more staff spoke English
